Getting Around the Conference Hall
The Site Map and Quick Access Guide
The conference site is, as you will shortly see, quite extensive (the actual 'conference hall' itself being spread between three cities and two continents), and it is all too easy to get lost or to miss portions of it that may be of interest and use to you. With this in mind we provide the following quick overview, a basic road map to help you position both the content and the means of the conference which we hope will make it easier and more agreeable to participate in the meeting. The map shows the five main parts of the conference, the means and the objectives, which complement each other and work together as follows. It may not be London or Tokyo, but you'll find that a good map really can help.
- Baseline Documents: To your left, you will find the pages that set out the main substantive and organizational baselines of the meeting. You may wish to think of this as the conference's 'problematique'. The first time visitor may find it useful to work their way down right the list in order (bouncing back each time to this site via the handy navigation bar). Incidentally, as you will note all the entries on all these lists are hotlinked to facilitate easy and direct reference from here.
- Conference Tools: In the middle upper column are listed the various tools and technical guides that will permit you full and easy access both to the meeting, its supporting electronic library, and to its many extensions and complements on the Web. Once again the order in which these sites are presented has been thought out with those less familiar with the Web much in mind.
- Podium: Then, just to your right, you will find the list of Podium presentations, which provide critical content for both goals of the conference (i.e., the zero emissions/sustainability objectives, and those which related to the 'new media' and the tools of the meeting). Once again, it may be useful to consult these in order, since they represent a dynamic process of information building. And finally, under all of the above and one of the main objectives of this whole exercise, is...
- CyberForum: All the above are the preparatory steps which bring us to the center of our confernce, The CyberForum, which is the place where comments are placed and ideas and themes developed through these exchanges as the conferences proceeds. You will see about this here in full detail (see Podium presentation of 8 Sept.), but already here let us make the point that it is a process that includes the Web site but that extends beyond it as well.
- Actions: The final link in this chain is the intended outcome of the conference, which as will be seen is oriented to action and in particular cooperative projects that will bring together the capabilities, the points of view and the resources of those who participate in the conference in many and myriad ways. The point that we wish to stress here is that this initiative is not intended to foster only more paper research and more conferences, but joint undertakings and... action that will lead us if not to, at least toward a situation of zero emissions and all that implies.
With the help of this map you should find it relatively easy to get around the conference without getting lost. In addition you will note at the top and bottom of each page, a "navigation bar" which is meant to help you to jump handily to the main sections of the site. If you ever feel that you are getting lost, we suggest that you just jump back to this site map, regain your sense of orientation, and then start out from there again. If you encounter trouble with any of this, do not hesitate to get word to the Webmaster; after all it's our job as host to the conference to help you find your way around.
