(Note from Ian Brywater, Convertech)
The 3rd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will meet in Kyoto later this year. Their home site announces: "Over 5,000 participants representing governments, international organizations and NGOs from over 170 countries will attend UNFCCC-COP3. Definitive policies such as quantified emission reduction targets will be created at this conference with the aim of controlling the causes and mitigating the effects of global warming. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held its first conference in Berlin in 1995. This meeting produced an agreement to create a protocol by the third meeting which concretely addresses the crisis of climate change into the next millenium. The second conference, which was held in Geneva, furthered the negotiations towards an international protocol which is expected to be adopted in Kyoto. Therefore, the third conference will represent great progress, whereby the world's governments concretely address climate change on our planet; this conference demands our attention, UNFCCC-COP3 will also be the largest United Nations event ever held in Japan."
What is meant by an event: It is not intended that the menology and its extensions will stop with physical meetings. We are looking for and at the raw materials of the future of technology policy and practice. This index will therefore attempt to provide and link to advance information on such exceptional events as: conferences, courses, brainstorming sessions, competitions, workshops , training sessions, programmes, demonstration projects, legislative debates, plan reviews, manifestations, media events, special numbers of journals, exhibitions, expositions, religious services, parades, protests, etc., which involve or address the issues that interest those who consult and work with this site. How to submit your event for posting: It is asked that submittal be made directly to WebMeister with a short link paragraph describing the name, purpose, dates, conditions of access, etc., together with link information for both email and the Web site, if any. Please be sure that your topic will be of interest to those who come to this site, with a few words explaining why. Entries for past events will not be removed from the database, since many users may be interested in informing themselves and following the results, even after the event.
Language policy: We would repeat here the language policy of The Commons, namely that there is no policy. All communications can be in the language which you believe will be most appropriate to the public whom you wish to address (though it would be pleasant if you could supply us with at least a brief English language summary for those who may wish to know what you are up to but lack the necessary language skills). On the other hand, it is expedient that communications be phrased in simple English and nice short sentences so that all can easily follow.
Here is some background on our event. Kindly post it in your menology (whatever that is).
