Oscar Edmundo Diaz has been international coordinator for the Bogota team over the last three years, which has led up the Bogota Project. High points of this project which are internationally known have been the first Bogota Car Free Day held last February (which won the Stockholm Challenge Prize for the Environment in June 2000, as well as being a tremendous local achievement). More recently the Bogota Project was recognized by the successful popular referendum of October 29th, which has laid the base for what is probably the most important city transportation project and approach of the last half century - a fifteen year program which is above political maneuvering and firmly locked into the law, the budget and into the minds of the citizens of Bogota. All aspects of this that can be consulted at http://ecoplan.org/votebogota2000/.

Oscar Edmundo’s main job in Earth Car Free Day 2001 is to contribute with his challenging experience organising a Car Free Day last February in which 6,5 million inhabitants mobilise in public transport, bikes or by foot. He will take a leading role aloing with Maria Elena Rodriguez in calling Latin American cities to join the first Earth Car Free Day.
