Summary Bio
Tony Verelst is Chairman of ISdAC International Association and is leading their contribution to this project. He was born with a physical disability, which paralysed all his limbs. After secondary school he was faced with an inaccessible job market, reluctant to disabled people, so he followed a distant training in computer skills. He worked as a teleworker and became aware of the immense possibilities of new technologies for the integration of disabled people within normal society. He joined ISdAC in 1998 as a disabled expert, and became Chairman in September 1998. ISdAC collaborated in the 1998-2000 CEU ACTS ASIS project (Alliance for a Sustainable Information Society, Social Inclusion Action, Group Chairman). ISdAC is an International Association of disabled experts that challenge Europe to make the Information Society accessible to all, as well as disabled people to show their skills in this context. Because normal society is inaccessible to them, disabled people are already using substitutes to satisfy their needs. Therefore ISdAC can act as a "watchdog" within the ASSIST-project to ensure that its recommendations ensure usability for all. For further background:
